Coach Phill Young

What do I do?

I am a coach who works with people who want to make a life long change to their health, fitness and wellbeing, I do this by working on three important elements that we all need to focus on to get the most out of life, these are;

  • Training / Exercise - Providing a bespoke plan that fits with you, what you enjoy doing and when you are able to do it, this could be moving more, training for a particular event or challenge, having the energy and strength to do your daily activities, whatever it needs to be to help you be "Fit for Life"

  • Nutrition - Educating and supporting you on how to eat in a way that allows you to enjoy all the foods you love, providing you with the energy you need to get the most form what you do and reach your fitness goals.

  • Mindset - Working on habits, behaviours and how you approach situations in life to get the most from them whilst moving yourself towards the person you want to be and do the things you want to do

By combining all three of  these we have a greater chance of succeeding in what we want to do and be truly fit for the life want to live.

Who am I?

First and foremost I am a human being, just the same as you.  I am a keen runner, which I took up again as I approached my 40's, I soon found the love of this and all it brought me in terms of physical fitness and then mental fitness, a way to deal with the challenges of daily life.

I soon realised that to get the most from my running I couldn't just run, I needed to include other things such as strength training, mobility work and work on my nutrition, as I worked on these my running improved, I became stronger and fitter, not just with running but in every day life, everything was easier to do.

Once I had all of those things where they needed to be and physically I was in a great place I felt there was still something missing that could help me more and this is when I started to explore mindset and personal development, how to be mentally prepared and resilient for all I wanted to do. I soon learnt that the mind holds us back from achieving what we are physically truly capable of doing.

In 2018 I decided I wanted to help others to achieve what I had been able to over the previous 4 years and started to study to become a Personal Trainer part time whilst working my full time job, I knew this would be a long term approach and over the next 18 months I completed my training and qualified as a Personal Trainer ready to go and help people â€‹change their health and fitness, this was really only the start of learning how to do this, you will see below I went on to complete further training and qualifications so as I could help people more.

Fast forward past the Covid epidemic and I have created a programme called Fit For Life which helps people to make life long changes to their, health, fitness and wellbeing, this is built on everything that I have done, taking all the good parts to help people who want to be fit to do all they want in life.

Aside from the Fit For Life programme I continue to coach runners, from beginner to accomplished runners looking to improve on their times or take on new race distances of challenges.

I still run to a fairly good level, enjoying running at a range of distances from 5k through to Ultra Marathon distance, running on both road and trail, preferring trail for the fun, freedom and challenge this brings.  See here for some of my recent performances and current personal bests (remember these are exactly that, personal bests, and are only ever what you should be comparing yourself to)

Outside of running and my coaching business I like to get out walking, hiking, exploring new activities, strength training and being part of the Brutal Run event team, see here for details on this.
